This privacy policy explains how Cardholder Vanilla ("we", "us"), operator of cardholdervanilla.com (the "Site"), handles personal information. We aim to collect as little as possible. This policy is written with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) in mind.

The short version

  • We never ask for, collect or store payment card numbers, expiry dates, security codes or PINs.
  • You can read every page without giving us any personal information.
  • If you contact us, we use your name, email and message only to reply.
  • If analytics or advertising services are enabled on the Site, they may use cookies; you can control this in your browser and with the opt-out links below.

Information we collect

Information you give us

When you use our contact form or email us, we receive your name, email address, the topic you choose and the content of your message. Please do not include card numbers or other financial details; our form rejects messages that appear to contain a card number.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our hosting server records standard log data when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, referring page, pages requested and the date and time. These logs are used for security, troubleshooting and understanding overall traffic, and are kept only as long as needed for those purposes.

Cookies

The Site itself does not set cookies to read our content. Third-party services described below may set cookies or use similar technologies if they are enabled on the Site. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the Site will continue to work.

Analytics

We may use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the Site (for example, which guides are most read). Google Analytics collects information such as pages visited, time on page, device type and approximate location derived from IP address. We do not use it to identify individual visitors. Advertising

We may display ads served by Google AdSense or other advertising partners. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this and other websites. Sharing

We share information only with service providers that help run the Site (such as our web host and email provider, and analytics or advertising providers if enabled), when required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and the Site. Some providers may process information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be subject to local laws.

Retention and security

Contact messages are kept only as long as needed to handle your request and any follow-up, and then deleted. We use HTTPS encryption across the Site and reasonable safeguards to protect the information we hold, but no online service can guarantee complete security.

Your rights

You may ask to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, or withdraw consent to its use, by writing to us through the contact page. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Children

The Site is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top shows when it was last changed.
